Sauna Producer
Mikie Sasano, successor to the renowned Sauna Shikiji, has produced sauna spaces at 11 facilities across Japan. She co-developed an herbal bath additive with Kitasato University Hospital and is currently researching the relationship between herbal saunas, menopause, and PMS.
At ROCK & STEAM, she created three distinct sauna experiences for the sauna suites, each inspired by a different theme: a tea room, a forest, and stone.
The stone-themed suite introduces a first-of-its-kind in-room sauna featuring a foot bath fed by Beppu’s natural hot spring water. Inspired by the stones of Beppu, the space invites guests to warm their feet in the hot spring water while enveloped in the radiant heat of stone. The forest-themed suite is filled with the scent of wood, with each room offering its own unique sensory experience.
